Mr. Lerner has 33 years of experience in the financial markets and 28-plus years in Emerging Markets.  He most recently was a Managing Director in the Emerging Markets Group at CarVal Investors LP, a US$10 billion global alternative asset manager, where he was the senior investment manager responsible for Latin America investments.  During his 14 years at CarVal, he sourced, structured and invested across a variety of asset classes including public corporate bonds, private credit/direct lending, distressed, restructuring and workouts, as well as equity investments.  He has experience financing companies in the energy, consumer/retail and industrial space.

 

Prior to CarVal, Mr. Lerner was the Head of Research on the EM Corporate Proprietary Trading desk at Lehman Brothers, responsible for generating trading ideas both in the public and private spaces.  Mr. Lerner also spent 8 years at Bear Stearns, starting as a senior corporate analyst and ultimately as a Managing Director Principal, heading Bear Stearns’ global EM Corporate Research team.   

 

Mr. Lerner graduated Summa Cum Laude from Syracuse University with dual Finance and Economic concentrations.  He is originally from Argentina, was raised in Europe, and currently resides in New York City area. He enjoys using his 4 languages to travel, spending time with his children, playing tennis, and following Formula 1.
